Approval of and authorization to purchase Video Cameras for the police department from Orion Security Solutions, pursuant to Oklahoma Statewide Security Equipment Contract # 0900000569

Background:

Law enforcement agencies throughout the State of Oklahoma are able to purchase equipment at the state contract price, which is advantageous to the political subdivisions by allowing them to make purchases at lower prices. The Police Department is seeking to purchase Hanwha video cameras for the coverage of thirty major intersections throughout the city. Hanwha is a South Korean company formerly Samsung security and is a global leader in video hardware and technology with a large footprint in all levels of the American government sector. In addition to high quality durable video capability these cameras are equipped with advanced traffic analytics capability including on board servers. This will provide the street department with a wide array of options to include traffic counts, in real time as well as historic. This purchase will be the first camera purchase to directly benefit two departments in the city. Some of these cameras will also serve a third purpose of reading license plates in lieu of dedicated license plate readers which results in cost savings.

Orion Security Solutions state bid for this equipment was $271,209.00

Funds have been appropriated and are available in the Police Department’s portion of the Public Safety Sales Tax Fund and the Street Department’s portion of Sales Tax Capital Improvement Fund.
