During the past couple of years, Staff has received inquiries from businesses who are interested in microbreweries or packaging and blending wine. These are generally small scale operations. The current Zoning Ordinance addresses large scale operations, but not the small scale.
It is Staff’s opinion that “micro food and beverage production” is a use that could occur in the mixed use districts (NM, CM, DM, and DF) and commercial districts (CN, CG, and CH) with a specific use permit. It would be allowed by right in the IL and IH districts. The parking requirements would be those listed in Table 5.4.2 of the Zoning Ordinance.
This item has been discussed previously by the Planning Commission on February 25, 2016, and March 10, 2016. Since the last meeting, Staff has added the words “bottles, and/or” to the definition. A public hearing to discuss and possibly recommend that Section 3.1 (Table 3.1-1), Section 3.2.C, Section 10.3.D.4 of the City of Broken Arrow Zoning Ordinance be modified to accommodate Micro Food and Beverage Production has been scheduled for April 14, 2016.
