Background:
The Police Department has purchased new vehicles to replace aging vehicles within its fleet. Those new vehicles need to be upfitted with police equipment. For the last few years, Joseph Eaton of Eaton Electronic Concepts has upfitted the Police Department’s vehicles. Eaton Electronic Concepts is local. Also, he has the knowledge and software to install/program Whelen equipment. Whelen is the American company that manufactures the equipment we install on our police cars. Other police equipment companies manufacture their products in China, which we want to avoid.
We attempted to solicit a quote from Visual Force in Catoosa. They never responded, and we learned they do not deal in Whelen equipment. Also, Metro Emergency in OKC and Dana Safety Supply in Edmond do not deal in Whelen Equipment. These companies would not be able to install/program the equipment we use on our cars. The next best option to find a company that could install Whelen equipment would be in either Texas or Kansas. We would have to ship the cars out of state or drive them, either way spending more money on each vehicle build.
The Police Department is happy with Eaton Electronic Concepts’ quality of work. These vehicle upfitting builds are highly technical and require expert knowledge in electronic work. Our city shop and other general mechanic shops are insufficiently equipped and staffed to upfit our modern police vehicles. We have a good working relationship with Joseph Eaton and request he be authorized to upfit our vehicles.
