End
Background:
Vaunda Olivera, Events Coordinator for the City of Broken Arrow, will present an update on the activities and events planned for the Rose District Farmer’s Market and special events planned for the Rose District for this year. Some highlights include the following:
• The Rose District Farmer’s Market opened its season on April 23rd with an Earth Day event. Attendance was approximately 750-1000 shoppers at the market. The recyclers reported over 2,500 lbs. of recycled waste was turned in. The Broken Arrow Utilities Department provided an activity for the kids.
• The Rose Festival hosted their annual event at the market on May 21st. The Rose Festival reported a lower attendance, but had more entries into the contests. Many of the winners included a few longtime residents. The festival committee was very pleased with the turn out and look forward to the event next year.
• This last Saturday, June 11th the market welcomed Chef Barry Jarvis, founder of Edible Tulsa Magazine. He demonstrated cooking with local produce.
• July 19th, we will have Alan Storjahonn, also known as the Gardening Expert, and KRMG live on air during the market hours. KRMG will feature interviews with local farmers in “Every Farmer Has a Story.” The market will have extended hours until 1:00 p.m.
• August 13th will be “Back to School Day” featuring Chef Catherine from Time Passages as she demonstrates how to get kids involved in preparing organic and easy packable lunch ideas.
Vaunda Olivera has developed a Facebook Page, Broken Arrow Special Events, to increase communication and promotion regarding events. The events scheduled for the Rose District this year include:
