Title:

title

Approval of and authorization to execute a Medical Director Services Agreement between David Gearhart, D.O. and the City of Broken Arrow for services as the Physician Medical Director for the Fire Department

End

Background:

State Statutes mandate all ambulance services licensed in the State of Oklahoma have a Physician Medical Director who oversees the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) operations.  The Medical Director is responsible for establishing the protocols used by EMS personnel who respond to medical emergencies.  The Medical Director is also responsible for overseeing a Quality Assurance program to ensure that medical care and dispatching meet the established standards.

David Gearhart, D.O., has served as the Physician Medical Director for the Broken Arrow Fire Department since January 2013, and has provided for tremendous growth and improvement in the level of service the Fire Department provides to the sick and injured within the City of Broken Arrow.

In cooperation with the City of Broken Arrow’s Legal Department, the Fire Department has negotiated a new contract with Doctor Gearhart which expands his roles and responsibilities to provide EMS report reviews and to provide feedback to EMS personnel on 15% (approximately 1,200 reports annually) of all EMS calls.  These added responsibilities and an increase in insurance premiums have necessitated an increase of $7,800.00 from the previous contract.
