Consideration, discussion and possible action to recommend to Council to expend funds for drainage design improvements in the Tucson Village II Subdivision (Case No. 25-018)
End
Background:
The proposed project is to design drainage improvements in the Tucson Village II Subdivision. Citizens along East Winston Street are experiencing excessive runoff and erosion along their property.
The Engineering plans for the subdivision were signed “No Exceptions Taken” in April of 2020. The original drainage plans show a drainage swale at the rear of the lots along East Winston Street in an overland drainage easement. Approximately 11 acres of offsite flow from the south flows onto the properties along East Winston Street. City staff conducted a site visit to see if a cause of the excessive runoff could be identified. Once on site, it was apparent that the drainage swale designed in the April 2020 Engineering plans was not constructed and is possibly the reason for the excessive runoff flowing toward these properties along East Winston Street.
A public meeting was held on September 4th, 2025 to inform the property owners along East Winston Street of the drainage concerns as any improvements would require approval from the property owners along East Winston Street. Those in attendance were in agreement with proceeding.
This is in the Broken Arrow Creek Watershed.
Staff is requesting $65,000.00 of the 2018 General Obligation Bond Proposition 6 funds for design funds to mitigate the offsite flow and erosion.
