Consideration, discussion, and possible acceptance of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Fiscal Year 2016 Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) for the purchase of six (6) Stryker Power-LOAD Ambulance Cot Fastening Systems
End
Background:
The Broken Arrow Fire Department has applied for and been awarded a $120,170 Assistance to Firefighters Grant for the purchase of six (6) Stryker Power-LOAD Systems to be installed in the department’s front line ambulance fleet. The Power-LOAD System lifts and lowers the cot into and out of the ambulance, reducing spinal loads and the risk of cumulative trauma injuries. The Power-LOAD system also improves operator and patient safety by supporting the cot throughout the loading and unloading process. The purpose of this equipment is to safeguard our EMS personnel and our patients from unnecessary injuries and delayed scene times due to loading patients on stretchers who exceed the EMS crew’s ability to lift the stretcher into the ambulance.
The proposed budget to purchase the requested equipment is $132,186. The total is derived from quotes obtained from Stryker EMS Equipment. The installation of the Power-LOAD systems will cost the City $6,600 or $1,100 per unit. Understanding that the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program is a 90/10 grant, the City of Broken Arrow agrees to finance the required 10% in the amount of $12,016.00 and cost of installation in the amount of $6,600. The Finance Department will propose a budget amendment at the beginning of Fiscal Year 2017/2018 to fund the City of Broken Arrow’s required portion and the cost of the installation.
The Fire Department will add the requested equipment to our existing Stryker maintenance contract, and we have consulted our Stryker area representative in reference to free training for all of our personnel for the requested equipment.
Funding for the purchase will come from the Fire Sales Tax Fund.
Cost: $18,616
