Background:
The existing City of Broken Arrow Parks and Recreation Master Plan was prepared and adopted in November 2008. During the preparation of the current Budget, a proposal was introduced to have the Parks and Recreation Master Plan updated along with the Comprehensive Plan. Funds are available in the Parks and Recreation 2018 Budget to update the Parks and Recreation Master Plan. As the City has retained Halff & Associates to update the Comprehensive Plan, Staff discussed this project with Halff & Associates, which has prepared many similar plans in our region.
With input from the Parks and Recreation Director, Halff & Associates has submitted the enclosed proposal to prepare a detailed update of the Parks and Recreation Master Plan and to make it a part of the City’s Comprehensive Plan. Though the Comprehensive Plan preparation has been under way over the last 3 months, this task will be conducted simultaneously, and completed with the Comprehensive Plan.
By conducting this planning process for the Parks and Recreation Plan together with the Comprehensive Plan there will be coordinating advantages and economies of scale, which will result in a better plan with new opportunities for citizens input and participation. If approved, the Parks and Recreation Department will be coordinating with the Development Services Department, towards the preparation of the Comprehensive Plan, including the Parks and Recreation Master Plan.
Funding for the project will be provided from the Parks and Recreation Capital Improvement Fund 32. The projected cost will not exceed $64,850.
Cost: $64,850.00
